Lithium Battery Fire Risk

Vapes stored incorrectly are one of the leading causes of fires at UK recycling centres and in waste collection vehicles. Safe storage of vapes with vermiculite is vital for lithium batteries.

FIRE SAFETY ADD-ON

Why We Recommend Vermiculite for Your Vape Storage Bin

Disposable and rechargeable vapes contain lithium batteries that can enter thermal runaway; a self-sustaining reaction producing intense heat, fire, and toxic gases, if damaged or stored incorrectly.

Placing vapes in general waste bins is illegal under UK WEEE regulations and poses a serious fire risk. A dedicated vape disposal bin is a compliant and safe alternative.

THE PROCESS

How Our Vape Bin Collection Works

From ordering your bin to receiving your compliance documentation, our service includes five straightforward steps:

1. Order your vape bin

Choose a container size based on your expected waste volume. We will then empty or exchange the bins.

3. Book a collection

Book online or by phone when your bin is full, or set a regular scheduled collection.

4. We collect & recycle

We offer ADR-certified collections to our WEEE recycling centre. Lithium batteries, plastics and electronics are all separated and recycled.

A Waste Transfer Note is issued for every collection as your WEEE compliance evidence.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who Needs a Vape Disposal Bin?

Pubs, Bars, Clubs & Hospitality

High footfall venues accumulate significant volumes of discarded disposable vapes each week. A 60L bin keeps you compliant without disrupting operations.

Schools, Colleges & Universities

Confiscated vapes cannot go into general waste. Our vape storage boxes provide a safe, compliant interim solution before licensed collection.

Facilities Management

Multi-site operations get one standardised bin and collection contract — one supplier, one documentation trail, one compliance position.

Councils & Local Authorities

Public venues, leisure centres and council-managed sites generate vape waste covered that our bins can assist with.

Not sure which service you need?

Tell us about your operation and we'll recommend the right bin size and collection frequency.

LEGAL OBLIGATION

Vape Bins & WEEE Compliance

Vapes and e-cigarettes are classified as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) under UK law, which means they cannot be disposed of in general waste or standard recycling bins. Businesses that generate, collect or handle vape waste have a legal obligation to ensure it is managed by a licensed waste carrier and processed at an approved facility.

How We Keep Businesses Compliant:

No. Vapes contain lithium batteries and electronic components classified as WEEE. Disposing of vapes in general waste or standard recycling bins is illegal under UK WEEE regulations and poses a serious fire risk in waste collection vehicles and at recycling centres. Businesses must use a licensed vape disposal bin and arrange compliant collection through a registered waste carrier.

The 10L and 15L vape bins suit internal, smaller locations for lower volumes of waste. The 30L and 60L drum is designed for high-volume locations such as large warehouses and retail stores. Contact our team and we’ll advise based on your expected monthly volume.

Vermiculite suppresses lithium battery fires by absorbing heat and restricting oxygen. Vermiculite is available with all VapeCycle bin orders.

Collections can be arranged on a scheduled or on-demand basis. Once your bin is full, book a collection with our team. We operate nationwide across England, Scotland and Wales.

Under WEEE Category 15 regulations (in force August 2025), all businesses producing, distributing or accepting vapes, including retailers, hospitality venues and facilities management companies, have defined obligations for compliant disposal. A dedicated vape disposal bin combined with a licensed collection service is the correct route to compliance.

Vapes are transported under ADR regulations to our licensed facility. Lithium batteries, plastics and electronic components are separated and recycled through approved electrical and electronic waste recycling streams. You receive a Waste Transfer Note confirming WEEE compliant disposal.
